Who are we
SLC Therapy provides independent Speech and Language Therapy services to children and young people in homes, nurseries, schools, and online. SLC Therapy is owned and managed by Nicole Davies, a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, who is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and is a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP).

Our Commitment to Data Protection

SLC Therapy is committed to protecting your personal data and ensuring any information you provide is handled safely, legally, and in line with Data Protection Laws, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

SLC Therapy is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as a Data Controller.

What Information We Collect

We may collect:

  • Your child’s name, date of birth, and details of their speech, language, and communication needs.

  • Parent/carer contact details (name, address, phone number, email).

  • Medical history, educational information, and developmental background.

  • Information from other professionals (e.g., teachers, SENCOs, NHS therapists), with parental consent.

  • Notes from therapy sessions, reports, and plans.

  • Invoicing and payment information.

How We Collect Information

We collect information directly from parents or carers via phone, email, or forms. With your consent, we may also collect information from other professionals involved in your child’s care.

If you contact us via the website’s enquiry form or email, we will collect your name, phone number, and email address to respond to your enquiry. You may add comments or queries which might also contain personal information. If no further services are provided, this information will be deleted once your enquiry has been dealt with. If your child is subsequently seen by SLC Therapy these details may be added to their personal record. SLC Therapy will collect personal, medical and financial information if you choose to  access our Speech & Language therapy  services.  We will only collect and hold personal information that is relevant for purposes of providing speech and language therapy services requested by our clients. Where the client is under the age of 18 years old, consent is obtained from the parent / legal guardian and information relating to the parent/ legal guardian  will also be collected, for communication and invoicing purposes.

Lawful Basis for Processing Personal Information

Our lawful basis for processing personal information and storing personal information, is to comply with our legal obligations. It is a legal requirement for all Speech and Language Therapists to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The HCPC has clear standards of conduct, performance and ethics that all registrants must adhere to. These standards affect the way in which we process and share information. Specifically:

  • Standard 2: Communicate appropriately and effectively

“You must share relevant information, where appropriate, with colleagues involved in the care, treatment or other services provided to a service user.”

 

  • Standard 10: Keep records of your work

“You must keep full, clear, and accurate records for everyone you care for, treat, or provide other services to. You must complete all records promptly and as soon as possible after providing care, treatment or other services. You must keep records secure by protecting them from loss, damage or

inappropriate access.”

How We Use Personal Information

We use your information to:

  • Plan and deliver appropriate speech and language therapy for your child.

  • Arrange appointments and communicate with you.

  • Share reports, therapy plans, and advice with you and (with consent) with school staff or other professionals involved.

  • Maintain accurate records.

  • Issue invoices and manage payments.

 Some information is stored on third party systems, as part of the service that is provided. These third parties act as data processors and have their own privacy policies that also protect your data. The following third parties are used by SLC Therapy:

  • Wix and Go Daddy (for the hosting of this website and contact enquiries)

  • Writeupp (storage of clinical notes)

  • Outlook mail (for the sending and receiving of  communication, sending of reports and invoices)

  • Free Agent (for the management and sending of invoices)

By becoming a client of SLC Therapy, you agree for yours/ yours child data to be stored in this manner.  Therapy service and shall only be used for the purposes of delivering appropriate speech and language therapy services to your child.

All information will be held and processed in line with the principles of the Data Protection Act. 

How We Store Personal Information

  • All records are stored securely using an encrypted, cloud-based system.

  • Any paper documents (such as assessment forms) are scanned, securely uploaded, and then shredded.

  • Where temporary digital storage is required (e.g., during assessments), data is held on password-protected devices or encrypted USBs.

  • Any confidential data removed from the office (e.g., for school visits) is either kept with the therapist or locked securely in the therapist’s car.

Records are retained until your child reaches the age of 25, or if they are still receiving therapy at age 17, records will be kept until they turn 26. After this time, records are securely destroyed.

Sharing Personal Information

With your consent, we may share information about your child with other professionals involved in their care, such as school staff, SENCOs, or healthcare professionals.

In exceptional cases, we may have to share information without consent, for example if required by law (e.g., safeguarding concerns). If this happens, we will inform you unless doing so would place the child at risk.

SLC Therapy does not sell or pass personal data to third parties for marketing purposes.

Your Rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Request a copy of the information we hold about you and your child.

  • Ask for records to be corrected if you believe they are inaccurate.

  • Withdraw consent for sharing data at any time (although this may impact the service we are able to provide).
